Jessica Mauboy - “Advance Australia Fair” in a New South Wales Indigenous dialect
Jessica Mauboy, the talented Australian singer, captivated hearts when she fearlessly performed the Australian national anthem in both Aboriginal language and English. Her rendition was nothing short of extraordinary, and it resonated deeply with the need to celebrate and promote Indigenous culture.
In her deadly performance, Jessica Mauboy stood on top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and sang “Advance Australia Fair” in a New South Wales Indigenous dialect1. This powerful act not only showcased her vocal prowess but also highlighted the importance of preserving and honoring Indigenous languages.
For far too long, Australian Indigenous languages were suppressed and erased from collective memory. Jessica Mauboy’s rendition serves as a beacon of hope-a celebration of the survival of Indigenous language and a reminder of the urgent need to protect Indigenous culture.
Beyond her anthem performance, Jessica Mauboy continues to champion Indigenous causes. She recognizes the vital role of Indigenous ranger programs, which are proven success stories for both natural heritage and the lives of Indigenous people. These highly skilled land managers work tirelessly to protect, nurture, and restore the landscape using traditional practices and modern science. They monitor endangered species, manage significant cultural sites, and share traditional knowledge. However, federal funding for these programs is only secured until 2018, and there’s a pressing need to double funding and increase the number of rangers on the ground2.
Jessica Mauboy’s rendition of the national anthem was more than just a performance-it was a call to action, urging us all to celebrate Indigenous culture and support its preservation.

"The Carnival Is Over." Just the title conjures a bittersweet pang, a memory of childhood wonder fading into the dusk. And hearing Judith Durham's voice soar through that 1968 BBC Special performance is like stepping right back into that twilight moment. The Seekers, bathed in the warm glow of the studio lights, weave their magic. Athol Guy's Double Bass plucks a gentle melody, Keith Potger's b...

What have they done to this footage to "digitally preserve" it? It looks like it's had an AI go over it to sharpen up the face, and it's no longer John's face, it doesn't even look like him. Pause it at 3 seconds for an example, but you could probably pause almost anywhere throughout this and see a face that looks nothing like John Farnham - what a shame.

Sgt Kennedy reminds me of a subdued Australian version of Sgt Blaketon in "Heartbeat". I remember seeing Michael Pate's son in an Australian movie made many years ago in rural Victoria, forget the name. Those are "Claytons" bikies, just blow ins from Melbourne. Love that Humber Super Snipe, keep it polished Miss Falconer! Homicide, Division-4 and Matlock Police, all compulsory viewing in our house when I was a boy, when the show finished it was off to bed! Thanks Roy the memories...
